Nella sua versione, che verrà trasmessa negli USA il 18 giugno, Franco ha fortemente voluto Tori Spelling affidandole un ruolo centrale. Stavolta il film racconterà la storia di una lesbica che si innamora di una serial killer sfidando la volontà della madre iperprotettiva e di una gelosa ex fidanzata vampira.
"Ho detto ai capi di Lifetime che avrei firmato il remake se mi avessero dato il permesso di modificare il progetto e l'ho trasformato in un lesbian vampire movie" ha dichiarato James Franco. "Vedremo in azione ancora una madre iperprotettiva e una sensuale amante, ma la coppia al centro della storia sarà formata da due lesbiche e il fidanzato geloso dell'originale sarà una giovane vampira tormentato. Lo scetticismo della madre nei confronti della nuova relazione della figlia sarà un pregiudizio omofobo e affronteremo anche il tema del vampirismo".
Protagonista della nuova versione è Leila George, mentre Tori Spelling interpreta la madre, e c'è anche Ivan Sergei che nella versione originale interpretava il killer. Emily Meade veste i panni della vampira lesbica e Franco compare in un piccolo ruolo.
Lo sceneggiatore e produttore ammette di essersi emozionato quando Tori Spelling e Ivan Sergei hanno accettato di far parte del suo film e aggiunge: "E' stato come seguire una tradizione e al tempo stesso portare il materiale in un luogo nuovo e inedito."
