Un viaggio introspettivo nella vita dell’autore, fra tematiche complesse, emozioni e ironia
Milano, 3 giugno 2020 - “Non è un seguito, anche se, a un certo punto, il racconto si intreccia con il precedente”, così Paolo Stella, digital creator e star del web, presenta il suo nuovo libro, Per Caso (tanto il caso non esiste). Pubblicato da Mondadori, è uscito il 3 giugno: è un romanzo nel quale l’autore si mette a nudo, rivelando gli avvenimenti più privati ed emozionanti della sua vita.
In un’esperienza dicotomica fatta di bassi e alti (i 178 centimetri di Naomi Campbell contro i 147 di Denny DeVito), di avvenimenti del passato che si alternano a quelli del presente, di omosessualità e di eterosessualità, di senso di inadeguatezza compensato dalla ricerca della popolarità si sviluppa Per Caso (tanto il caso non esiste). Un’opera autobiografica in cui il ritmo è scandito anche dalle scenografie: gli spazi lussuosi di un hotel di Shanghai e quelli austeri del Reparto pediatrico disfunzioni genetiche dell’ospedale Sant’Orsola di Bologna; gli alabastri e i materiali preziosi degli interni del primo, i “colorini” del secondo; gli aromi dell’alta cucina o delle seducenti profumazioni del bagnoschiuma contro l’odore acre del disinfettante.
Contro ogni aspettativa, in quell‘ospedale avviene l’incontro che cambierà per sempre la vita dell’autore, quello con Sottile. Questa presenza speciale, che nell’incontro fra maschio e femmina ha qualcosa di mitologico, insegna a Paolo l’immenso valore della libertà, quello di poter scegliere per ciò che si è e di non sentirsi mai sbagliati. Ma anche l’emozione di un’amicizia diversa, che probabilmente assomiglia più all’amore che ad altro.
“…Di cosa ci si innamora poi? Io mi sono innamorato di un respiro sottile in una notte di silenzio buio. Non di un volto, né di un corpo. Non mi sono innamorato di un uomo o una donna….”
Con un linguaggio leggero, immediato, sottile appunto, l’autore affronta la propria storia personalissima, le proprie emozioni profonde e i molti conflitti interiori, la relazione con i suoi genitori e i quattro fratelli, le paure di affrontare la propria sessualità, le delusioni e l’affetto della famiglia. Insomma, dal romanzo emerge tutto il mondo interiore di Paolo Stella, quello con cui ha dovuto fare i conti prima di arrivare alla piena consapevolezza di sé e alla popolarità.
“…Ero talmente diverso da sentirmi diverso anche da me, come se all’interno del mio io bivaccassero molteplici personalità in caotica dissonanza fra loro…Questo evento familiare sviluppò nel mio inconscio una malatissima voglia di approvazione, una costante ricerca di conferma nell’altro che mi portò anche a indirizzare la mia vita lavorativa nel settore dello spettacolo. Avevo bisogno di raggiungere quanta più gente possibile, di arrivare nelle case senza bussare, senza chiedere il permesso mostrarmi per la brava persona che con fatica ero diventato ….”.
“Tutto ciò che ho creato, l’ho fatto prevalentemente attraverso il web e in questo libro ho voluto mantenere viva l’immediatezza e la semplicità di linguaggio della rete. Volevo arrivare a tutti e condividere un messaggio di possibilità. Con questa stessa logica ho chiesto ai miei follower di fare delle proposte di copertina: per la cover ho scelto quella che meglio interpretava il contenuto del libro. Poi, però, ho voluto realizzare una sovracopertina con una composizione di 200 proposte, selezionate fra le oltre duemila che sono arrivate”, conclude Paolo Stella.
Per Caso (tanto il caso non esiste) è una storia da leggere tutta d’un fiato, in cui ognuno troverà una qualche similitudine con la propria vita, anche solo in un passaggio o nel racconto di una sensazione. È un viaggio introspettivo, un romanzo che parla di tematiche complessi, ma anche di emozioni: è una voce amica che ha il potere di normalizzare ognuno perché non esistono persone sbagliate, sentimenti di cui vergognarsi, storie inadeguate.
Un respiro sottile ancora più timido e impotente. Un respiro da sveglio, mica da dormiente. Lo riconosco dal fremito di aspettativa. Dall'esitazione. Sono ammaliato da un'esitazione. Forse per istinto, forse per necessità. E bastato il fiato trattenuto al di là di una tenda verdina per riconoscere l'appartenenza, siamo già in collegamento, un'amicizia o l'amore della vita. Non so nemmeno cosa sei. Sei un respiro sottile appoggiato al silenzio della notte". Basta un niente per riempire fino all'orlo il cuore di Paolo. Lui è un ragazzino ricoverato al Sant'Orsola di Bologna, reparto malattie genetiche. Il suo pediatra vuole capire come mai si sia fermato al metro e ventuno nonostante i suoi tredici anni. Paolo non conosce invece la ragione per la quale il bambino che ha soprannominato Sottile sia nel letto a fianco a lui. Ma è così che, libero dal gioco dei ruoli definiti, comincia a esplorare i propri sentimenti. La magia, la forza ancestrale del mito e delle fiabe sono facilmente riconoscibili in questo incontro che vive nelle prime pagine di "Per caso", il secondo romanzo di Paolo Stella, ispirato ancora una volta alla sua vera storia, a quel difetto genetico che, diagnosticato in giovanissima età, gli regalò l'incontro con un bambino davvero speciale e con le prime emozioni che chiamiamo amore. "Per caso" è anche una risposta poetica, potente e magica alle domande sull'amore e sull'identità. E lo sforzo narrativo di trovare un sentiero totalmente nuovo nella giungla delle storie che a questo sentimento hanno chiesto tutto, spesso senza donare nulla. Forse occorre partire dall'amore per capire chi siamo, forse l'identità è il frutto di una scelta d'amore.

An introspective journey into the author's life, between complex themes, emotions and irony
Milan, June 3, 2020 - "It is not a sequel, even if, at a certain point, the story intertwines with the previous one", so Paolo Stella, digital creator and web star, presents his new book, Per Caso (a lot the case does not exist). Published by Mondadori, it was released on June 3: it is a novel in which the author lays bare, revealing the most private and exciting events of his life.
In a dichotomous experience made of low and high (the 178 cm of Naomi Campbell against the 147 of Denny DeVito), of events of the past that alternate with those of the present, of homosexuality and heterosexuality, of a sense of inadequacy compensated by research of popularity develops by chance (the case does not exist). An autobiographical work in which the rhythm is also marked by the sets: the luxurious spaces of a Shanghai hotel and the austere ones of the Pediatric Genetic Dysfunction Department of the Sant’Orsola hospital in Bologna; the alabasters and the precious materials of the interior of the former, the "colors" of the latter; the aromas of haute cuisine or the seductive scents of the bubble bath against the acrid smell of disinfectant.
Against all expectations, in that hospital the meeting takes place that will change the life of the author forever, the one with Sottile. This special presence, which in the encounter between male and female has something mythological, teaches Paul the immense value of freedom, that of being able to choose what you are and never feeling wrong. But also the emotion of a different friendship, which probably looks more like love than anything else.
"... What do you fall in love with? I fell in love with a thin breath on a dark night of silence. Not of a face, nor of a body. I didn't fall in love with a man or a woman ... "
With a light, immediate, subtle language, the author deals with his own personal story, his deep emotions and the many internal conflicts, the relationship with his parents and the four brothers, the fears of facing his sexuality, the disappointments and the affection of the family. In short, from the novel emerges the whole inner world of Paolo Stella, the one he had to deal with before arriving at full self-awareness and popularity.
"... I was so different that I felt different from me too, as if multiple personalities in chaotic dissonance among them bivouacked within me ... This family event developed in my unconscious a very bad desire for approval, a constant search for confirmation in the other which also led me to direct my working life in the entertainment sector. I needed to reach as many people as possible, to arrive in the houses without knocking, without asking for permission to show me for the good person who with difficulty I had become ... ".
"Everything I created, I did mainly through the web and in this book I wanted to keep alive the immediacy and simplicity of the language of the network. I wanted to reach everyone and share a message of possibilities. With this same logic I asked my followers to make cover proposals: for the cover I chose the one that best interpreted the content of the book. Then, however, I wanted to create a cover with a composition of 200 proposals, selected from the over two thousand that have arrived ", concludes Paolo Stella.
For Caso (as chance does not exist) is a story to be read in one breath, in which everyone will find some similarity with their own life, even if only in a passage or in the story of a sensation. It is an introspective journey, a novel that talks about complex issues, but also about emotions: it is a friendly voice that has the power to normalize everyone because there are no wrong people, feelings to be ashamed of, inadequate stories.
An even more shy and helpless subtle breath. A waking breath, not asleep. I recognize it from the thrill of expectation. By the hesitation. I am fascinated by a hesitation. Maybe out of instinct, maybe out of necessity. The breath held beyond a green curtain was enough to recognize belonging, we are already in connection, a friendship or the love of life. I don't even know what you are. You are a thin breath leaning against the silence of the night. "Nothing is enough to fill Paolo's heart to the brim. He is a boy hospitalized at the Sant'Orsola hospital in Bologna, genetic diseases department. His pediatrician wants to understand why he was stopped at the meter and twenty-one despite his thirteen years. Paul does not know the reason why the boy he nicknamed Sottile is in the bed next to him. But this is how, free from the game of defined roles, he begins to explore the their feelings. The magic, the ancestral force of myth and fairy tales are easily recognizable in this encounter that lives in the first pages of "By chance", the second novel by Paolo Stella, inspired once again by his true story, that defect genetic that, diagnosed at a very young age, gave him the encounter with a very special child and with the first emotions that we call love. "By chance" is also a poetic, powerful and magical answer to questions about love and identity. And the narrative effort to find a totally new path in the jungle of the stories that have asked everything for this feeling, often without giving anything. Perhaps it is necessary to start from love to understand who we are, perhaps identity is the fruit of a choice of love.
