UN PO’ DI STORIA

Documentandomi su questo prodotto una cosa davvero sorprendente che ho scoperto è che non si tratta affatto di una recente invenzione (molti la fanno risalire agli anni ’80), bensì di un prodotto che era già molto diffuso tra la fine dell’Ottocento e i primi del Novecento.

In quel periodo veniva pubblicizzata la Tassette, una coppetta americana creata da Leona Chalmers che dovette scrivere un libro per spiegarne il funzionamento.

Tuttavia questa invenzione ebbe vita breve a causa dello scoppio della guerra che rese difficile il reperimento del materiale con cui veniva realizzata, ossia la gomma.

Allo stesso tempo era da tenere in considerazione anche la presenza radicata di un tabù di tipo culturale in quanto era quasi impensabile che una donna avesse tanta consapevolezza del proprio corpo da inserirvi un “oggetto estraneo”.

Sarà poi intorno agli anni ’60, grazie al movimento femminista che la coppetta mestruale inizierà a diffondersi maggiormente fino a ottenere un significativo incremento negli ultimi 20-30 anni.

Si trova in farmacia, in alcuni negozi biologici e, naturalmente, online.

Ovviamente state molto attente quando acquistate questo prodotto: non optate per quelle eccessivamente economiche e non acquistatele in negozi o siti poco sicuri, potreste incappare in un prodotto non idoneo e creare dei problemi in una zona così delicata.

COME SI USA

Innanzitutto è importante dire che non si tratta di un prodotto usa e getta: al contrario è stata studiata per durare dai 5 ai 10 anni, se correttamente sterilizzata prima di ogni ciclo mestruale. Ecco perché è considerato un prodotto ecologico!

Può rimanere inserita per un periodo che va dalle 8 alle 10 ore circa, ma ovviamente questo dipenderà dal vostro flusso se più o meno abbondante.

Per quanto riguarda invece il metodo più comodo per inserirla, prima di tutto dovrete lavarvi bene le mani, dopo di che basterà piegarla in due su se stessa e inserirla in profondità fin sotto la cervice e, una volta lasciata la presa, la coppetta si aprirà e aderirà alle pareti vaginali impedendo la fuoriuscita del sangue.

Per rimuoverla poi dovrete lavarvi nuovamente le mani, estrarla e lavarla bene prima di reinserirla. Al termine del ciclo, sterilizzatela per bene facendola bollire.

PRO E CONTRO DELLA COPPETTA MESTRUALE

Uno dei fattori positivi della coppetta mestruale è che, una volta inserita (se inserita correttamente), non si dovrebbe sentire essendo anche realizzata in un materiale molto morbido e malleabile. Le opinioni a riguardo sembrerebbero unanimi: per essere comoda, è comoda.

Pare poi che sia più igienica addirittura dei comuni tamponi, in quanto raccoglie il sangue invece di assorbirlo evitando l’insorgere di problemi quali secchezze vaginali o alterazione della flora batterica. Si riduce il rischio di infezioni e si evita il problema del cattivo odore essendo la coppetta all’interno e non a contatto con l’aria.

Un altro fattore positivo è il risparmio economico poiché, facendo alcuni calcoli, il costo viene ammortizzato nel giro di qualche mese, dal momento che in media un pacco di assorbenti o tamponi costa in media 3/4 euro e dura, al massimo, un paio di cicli mestruali.

Inoltre, come vi dicevo, è ecologica: non si producono rifiuti e si evita quindi di inquinare l’ambiente circostante.

Inoltre si ha maggiore libertà nei movimenti e nel vestirsi…e nello svestirsi! Con la coppetta, per esempio, si può tranquillamente fare il bagno in mare o in piscina, anche senza slip, durante il ciclo, senza che l’assorbente si carichi di acqua del mare o di acqua clorata!

I contro di questo prodotto c’è da tenere in considerazione la “confidenza” che si ha con il proprio corpo e la consapevolezza che prima di riuscire a usarla nel modo corretto si dovrà fare un po’ di pratica e avere pazienza.

Secondo le esperienze, reperite sul web, di chi l’ha utilizzata, il problema principale consiste nell’ansia e nel timore di sbagliare a inserirla. L’agitazione del momento favorirebbe l’irrigidimento dei muscoli e quindi difficoltà a inserire la coppetta nel modo corretto senza piccoli dolori e fastidi.

Moltissime, poi, temono che lavarla sia disgustoso. In realtà, una volta estratta e svuotata nel water la coppetta non dovrebbe risultare così sporca e, sicuramente, lo è meno di un classico assorbente esterno. Anche le ragazze più impressionabili non dovrebbero, insomma, avere problemi.

Dovendo poi farlo solo una volta ogni 10 ore, difficilmente saremo costrette a lavare la coppetta mentre siamo in giro. Se poi proprio un giorno sappiamo di dover passare fuori casa 16 ore e l’idea di dover pulire la coppetta in un bagno “estraneo” non piace per niente, si può sempre valutare, per un giorno, di ricorrere ad un altro tipo di assorbente.

Inoltre è da evitare l’uso della coppetta mestruale dopo il parto per almeno 6 settimane e dopo un intervento ginecologico, in questi casi sarà meglio utilizzare esclusivamente assorbenti esterni.
