EXTRA EMBELLISHMENT
Not just for the office Christmas do, jewelled hair clips are the acccessory du jour.
Do as Ashley Williams AW17 did by wearing one statement clip to the side or fully embrace the trend Toga AW17 style by fixing multiple mismatched jewels all over.
Beauty shoot stylist to the stars Ben Cooke says, 'If you're going to try the multi-jewelled hair clip trend, you need a good amount of texture in your hair so they don't slip and slide and fall out.
This is better done on hair that's slightly dirty. Add some dry shampoo at the root - I love Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo Mega Instant. Then randomly tong your mid lengths and a few ends to create the texture.
Then, using your fingers, roughly mess it up. Quickly your hair pull up into a loose ponytail and half pull it through to achieve a messy bun.
Then place your clips wherever you like, just remember you don't need to see them all when you look front on in the mirror.'

BOYISH HAIR
Those with angular facial features should embrace the androgynous look with both hands this year. However, this isn't just a look reserved for high cheekbones and sharp jawlines.
Celebrity hairstylist George Northwood says: 'Nothing can be as transformative to a face as a crop but it's a dramatic change. The softer the face, the stronger and more angular cut you can go for and vice versa.'
It's important to emphasise this isn't a look for the faint-hearted.
'Do keep in mind you are looking at a couple of years to get to shoulder length or longer so it's not a change to leap into. Having said that, if you love changes then it's great because you can enjoy every stage from crop to length again. As with any dramatic change you may need to adjust your clothes and make-up to feel like 'you',' adds George.

CURL-STYLING, FAUX-PERMS
This time of year plays havoc with our hair, resulting in flyaway curls and kinks no straightener can tame.
Co-founder of Bleach London Alex Brownsell urges us to embrace the curls in a big way this year.
'Westworld was my biggest hairspiration of 2016. Get that existential crisis on the prairie look by attacking your hair with curling tongs and hoping for the best. This isn't an every day look because of the time it takes, but is a perfect way of killing a few hours between narrative loops. Or try a triple barrel tong to give more of an 80s style.'
To keep the curl, Alex suggests using Bumble and Bumble thickening spray before blow drying before setting the curls with L'Oréal Paris Elnett Hairspray. 'Don't be shy – the more the better as it will keep the style in for longer,' she adds.

THE BRAID UPDATE
Plaits might not be anything new but this year it's all about leaving things loosey goosey.
'The fact that they are soft and slightly undone gives them an element of modern romance,' says Adam Reed, 'Not every hair is in place and it's not over clean and over tidy. The braid itself is the dominant feature of all of these looks.'
How to do it at home?
'Keep it soft with a bit of movement so it looks deliberately like you've done it yourself', says Adam, 'It's a good idea to use a hair oil to prep the hair so it looks healthy, glossy and shiny.'
