Il Fontego dei Tedeschi è tornato: dopo otto anni di chiusura e tre di cantiere,  l'ex palazzo delle Poste riapre come polo del lusso e con un nuovo nome, T Fondaco: T come "travelers", viaggiatori, la catena di centri commerciali di super lusso firmata in tutto il mondo dalla Dfs Duty Free , alla quale Edizioni Holding della famiglia Benetton - che nel 2008 ha acquistato il palazzo dal Demanio, in quella che è stata l'operazione immobiliare e il restauro che più ha fatto discutere e diviso  - ha ceduto la gestione del nuovo polmone commerciale della città: 65 boutiques di griffe che si snodano lungo i portici dei tre piani che si aprono sul cortile dell'edificio, che ha mantenuto la sua struttura cinquecentesca, animata però da scale mobili rosso fuoco per salire e scale scintillanti di bagliori d'oro per scendere, con una terrazza tutta nuova con una vista mozzafiato dal tetto più alto della città. Numeri. 54 i milioni di euro pagati nel 2012 dalla famiglia Benetton attraverso la loro Edizioni Holding al Demanio, in una vendita che scosse la città; 6 i milioni quelli dati al Comune di Venezia in cambio della cancellazione dei vincoli all'uso pubblico dell'edifizio;  almeno 40 i milioni spesi per il risanamento e restauro firmato dallo studio Oma dell'archistar Rem Koolhass, una cifra a parecchi zeri spesa da Dfs  per l'allestimento firmato Jamie  Fobert e la trasformazione del Fontego dei Tedeschi in "T Fondaco", dove sono stati assunti 450 dipendenti, per lo più giovani e per il 70 per cento donne. Tutti parlano inglese, molti anche  cinese, coreano, giapponese. "Contiamo di andare a regime in un paio d'anni con un fatturato annuo di 100 milioni di euro e circa 2 milioni di visitatori", commenta il vicedirettore Dfs, Roberto Meneghesso.
